U.S. Bio Dyersville

Project Name: U.S. Bio Dyersville
Location: Dyersville, IA
Architect: FAGEN Engineering
Contractors: FAGEN Inc. and McCormick Construction Company.
Owner: Big River United Energy

Project Details:

BARD Materials was selected to supply aggregates and concrete for the one hundred million gallon per year ethanol plant located west of Dyersville.  BARD custom crushed stone to specific gradations required for bases, roads, and railroad spurs.  Concrete  was supplied for all aspects of the project which included auger cast piling and waterproofing admixtures.  The concrete work also demanded  around the clock continuous pours.  The two large silos were successfully completed in a continuous pour that took about five days.

After the plant was completed the focus shifted to the roads into and around the plant.  After much discussion with the U.S. Bio Energy representatives, BARD Materials representatives, Iowa Concrete Paving, and Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association staffs the decision was made to switch from an asphalt surface to a permanent more cost effective concrete road.

The plant is now operated by Big River Energy employing local people and supporting the area farmers.  This project was the culmination of a lot of teamwork between the City of Dyersville, Dyersville Economic Development Corp., Delaware Economic Development Corp., and the Iowa Department of Economic Development.
